What Makes Us Unique

We are family; SCBC is very proud of it’s history, the natural beauty that surrounds the club, and we are extremely proud of the camaraderie that exists between our members.

Timeline:

  • First established as St. Catharines Boat Club in 1949. Originally located at the mouth of the Niagara River, at the location of what is now the Niagara-On-The-Lake Sailing Club.
  • The club relocated upriver, in 1959, from Gillingham’s Yacht Basin, now NOTLSC.
  • The first SCBC clubhouse is still in active service at the Port Dalhousie Yacht Club. It is used for their junior sailing school program.

Organization Structure

Like all clubs we have an elected executive. Nominations and election are done at our AGM in November of each year. Any member in good standing may run for any position. The Executive or Bridge is composed of seven (7) positions, six (6) of which are elected.

The company we keep

SCBC is very proud of its history, and its members have always been and will continue to represent a cross-section of Niagara.

  • SCBC’s success can be attributed to its inclusiveness. Every spring, as a club, we work together to assemble the complex and the gangway that connects to our federally-granted anchorage.
  • Throughout the year, we organize social activities that involve all those interested in attending. In the fall, we gather to disassemble the complex, store the floating buildings and leave the river in its natural state, just as it was in the spring.
